My brother had been convicted of Material Support and he is facing deportation to Sudan but the country derailed into a civil war. He can not apply for asylum because of the terrorism bar. He wants to know what will happen to him
Hello ****, I'm sorry to hear about your brother's situation. His case might fall under the Convention Against Torture (CAT) protection, if he can prove that he's likely to be tortured upon returning to Sudan. A legal professional can provide more specific advice.
What about the terrorism bar?!
The terrorism bar can indeed prevent someone from obtaining asylum. However, protection under Convention Against Torture (CAT) may be an option. It's not subject to the terrorism bar, but it requires substantial proof of likely torture upon return. Please contact a lawyer for specific advice.
We don't have money and I'm looking for a pro bono lawyer to help us.
I understand your situation, ****. Can you please tell me your location so I can provide you with some resources for finding pro bono legal assistance?
