I'm in Virginia and my court appointed attorney has passed away 7 months after I was initially charged and I haven't even entered a not guilty plea yet.. I've been to court three times and every time it's been continued with the last time being in June 5th and that's when my lawyer wasn't there because he was in the hospital..
Hello Barbara. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. In Virginia, if your court-appointed attorney is unable to continue for any reason, the court should provide another attorney for you. You should contact the court or your attorney's office to request a new appointment.
I was scheduled for court next week on August 7th is that when I should ask
Yes, Barbara. You can ask for a new court-appointed attorney during your next court appearance on August 7th. However, to avoid any delays, it would be advisable to contact the court before that date and inform them about your situation.
Thank you I will do that
You're welcome, Barbara. It's very important to have legal representation throughout your case. So, do contact the court and explain your situation to them. Best of luck!
