I got a notice from a collection agency for a cellphone and company where they ran my credit for a minor to get a phone on the assumption that he was going to pay the bill. They never put it in my name or had me to sign anything. I think he paid on it for a couple of months. I didn't find out about it until the phone company sent me a notice in the mail. I'm on Social Security with many health problems, am I supposed to be responsible for that debt?
Hello Patricia, it seems you're dealing with a complex issue. Just to clarify, was the minor related to you or did they have your permission to use your credit information? Your location would also be helpful to provide more accurate information.
I live in Mississippi, and he's a step- grandson. I let them run my credit only because he was working.
In Mississippi:
*. You may not be held responsible if you didn't sign a contract for the phone.
*. Your consent to run a credit check doesn't automatically make you liable for the debt.
However, legal issues can be complex. It's advised to contact a local attorney.
Alright, thank you
You're welcome, Patricia. If you need any further advice or have more questions, feel free to ask. It's always best to understand your rights and obligations fully.
